M-ERA.NET Joint Call 2021: Stage 1 Pre-proposal
The aim is to fund ambitious transnational RTD projects addressing materials research and innovation including materials for low carbon energy technologies, future batteries technology and related production technologies. M-ERA.NET aims to strengthen the contribution of materials R&D to energy-related applications where applicable.

What can you apply for?
International research and development projects that deal with materials research and material innovations.
Who can apply?
Companies and research organizations in collaboration with other parties. The international consortium must consist of at least 3 grant-seeking parties from at least 2 countries participating in M-ERA.NET Call 2021. Please refer to the call text for other formal eligibility requirements on the consortia composition.
How much can you apply for?
There is no formal upper or lower limit for how much can be applied for, nor is there a maximum grant share at project level. At least 30 percent of the cost of Swedish project participation must be incurred by Swedish companies. Of this share, funding can be sought up to the level allowed under EU state aid rules.
What is the offer about?
The call concerns funding for ambitious international research and development projects that deal with materials research and material innovations. This includes, but is not limited to, materials for carbon dioxide-efficient energy technology and future battery technology with associated production technologies. M-ERA.NET aims to strengthen the contribution from materials-related R&D to energy-related applications, where relevant.
The call focuses on the following six thematic areas:
- Topic 1: Modeling for materials engineering, processing, properties and durability
- Topic 2: Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces
- Topic 3: High performance composites
- Topic 4: Functional materials
- Topic 5: New strategies for advanced material-based technologies for health applications
- Topic 6: Materials for additive manufacturing
