JPI AMR Joint Transnational Call 2022: Disrupting drug Resistance Using Innovative Design.

This offer is aimed at Swedish parties seeking funding in the international call JPI AMR 2022 (Joint Programming Initiative Antimicrobial Resistence 2022) with a focus on innovative drug design. JPI AMR is responsible for the application function and the assessment of proposal. Vinnova's role is to finance the Swedish parties in the project that are assessed positively by JPI AMR and meet Vinnova's national eligibility requirements for funding. For this reason, the projects seeking funding from JPI AMR will also submit a proposal to Vinnova. If two Swedish parties participate in an international consortium, they must submit a joint proposal. Vinnova participates in this call for proposals together with the Swedish Research Council and SIDA. Swedish project partners in a consortium seeking funding from Vinnova must consist of at least one participant from industry (small or medium-sized companies and large companies). Swedish applicant without industrial participation are referred to the Swedish Research Council.

Swedish parties from academia, institutes, idea-driven organizations and the public sector and care providers can apply for 100% cost coverage if the activities are included in their non-financial activities. Large companies can apply for 20% of the eligible costs, small and medium-sized enterprises can apply for up to 70% of the eligible costs.

Vinnova finances a Swedish industrial party in a consortium with a maximum of SEK 3 million over three years. If more Swedish parties are included, the total financing can amount to a maximum of SEK 4.5 million. However, no party can apply for more than SEK 3 million.

Participant applying for funding must be a Swedish legal entity (organization) in Sweden. In this respect, a Swedish legal entity (organization) is equated with a foreign organization that has a branch or place of business in Sweden (the costs of the project must be attributable to the branch's or place of business's activities).

This call for proposals is the 14th call within the framework of The Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance, JPI AMR. The call is coordinated by ERA-Net JPIAMR-ACTION and brings together 26 organizations from 17 countries to invest in transnational collaborative research and innovation.

This call for proposals (Disrupting drug resistance using innovative design) aims to improve the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections (including co-infection) and / or prevent the emergence / spread of resistance in humans, animals or plants by improving efficiency, specificity, delivery, the combinations and / or reuse of medicinal products and plant protection products. Project proposals should focus on licensed antimicrobials (antibiotics / antifungals) or agents in preclinical and / or early clinical development, and should address at least one of the following substances.

• Improving the effectiveness and / or specificity of the medicinal product / plant protection product through chemical modifications (including hit-to-lead optimization).
• New uses for existing medicinal / plant protection products.
• Optimization of combinations of drugs / plant protection products, single or with additional treatments (including therapeutic vaccines).
• Design and implementation of new strategies (including optimization of drug dosage) for improved application, efficacy and delivery of individual or combinations of antimicrobials.
• Design and develop innovative tools, including new chemistry and / or new materials for improved application, effect and delivery of antimicrobial methods.

Each consortium must consist of at least three different organizations (eligible for funding) from three different countries. A maximum of two organizations from each country may be part of a consortium.

The call is aimed at Swedish industry, academia, the public sector, institutes and idea-driven organizations seeking funding in the JPI AMRs international call for proposals 2022. Swedish actors seeking funding from Vinnova must consist of at least one industrial participant,see international call website and Vinnova's general terms and conditions for funding: Vinnova's general terms and conditions for funding. The consortia that do not have a Swedish industrial player can apply for funding from the Swedish Research Council.

In order for a limited liability company to be eligible to apply, the most recent annual report must show that net sales or equity correspond to at least half of the amount applied for. If this is not confirmed by the most recent annual report, a certificate from an authorized accounting consultant / auditor or an account statement needs to be attached or provided upon request from Vinnova.

Our funding is through funding. Funding for organizations that conduct financial activities is covered by rules on state support.

The rules govern, among other things, the types of costs and the proportion of them that may be covered by funding.

The assessment of the content of the application is handled by JPI AMR, but in order for the project to be funded by Vinnova, the applicant must meet the following national formal eligibility requirements:

• All Swedish project parties are legal entities / organizations and listed in Vinnova's portal
• Proposal is written in Swedish or English
• At least one of the Swedish applicant is from industry
• The maximum amount applied for for a Swedish applicant is SEK 3,000,000
• Maximum amount applied for for the Swedish project parties in the consortium SEK 4,500,000
• Applied aid intensity must comply with the requirements under section What do we finance
• For limited companies, the most recent annual report must show that net sales or equity correspond to at least half of the sum applied for. Proposal is assessed by a group of international experts appointed by JPI AMR and in accordance with the assessment criteria found in the international call website.

About our decisions

How much each party in the project is granted in funding is stated in the decision. Funding will be granted with the support of EU Commission Regulation (EU) no. 651/2014 Article 25 - industrial research. The basis for support is stated in the decision and also governs which costs are eligible.

Our decision to grant or reject a proposal is not subject to appeal.

Our rules and term for funding

To apply for funding, you first make a proposal on the international call website, according to the instructions available there.

By 15 March 2022 at 14.00, you must also submit a proposal on Vinnova's application portal. There you fill in the mandatory information including all Swedish project partners and attach your JPI AMR 2022 proposal as a project description and if necessary also a certificate from the auditor / accounting consultant or account statement, see under the section "Who is the call to".

Proposal to Vinnova will only apply to the Swedish part of the JPI AMR project. If there are more Swedish project parties in the project, a joint proposal be sent to Vinnova. The party submitting the proposal becomes "Coordinating participant" and is responsible for the contact with Vinnova. The budget must be stated in SEK.

In cases where your project application is invited to submit a complete proposal to JPI AMR, you will also be able to complete your submitted proposal to Vinnova.

Clear your proposal well in advance before Vinnova closes the portal. You can unlock the proposal at any time and make changes, right up until closing.

When the call is closed and the proposal is registered with Vinnova, a confirmation will be sent by e-mail to you who are in charge of the user account, project manager and signatory / head of department. It may take a few hours before you receive the email.
