Syfte och mål

ReUsable provides new knowledge to build the health and care of the future. ReUsable contributes to relieving pressure on health and care facilities by replacing the use of disposablesin the Operating Rooms. The aim is to collect data on CO2 emissions and costs by conducting a pilot study where we temporarily implement logistics systems, including all steps and links from manufacturing, supplying, packaging, transporting, washing, sterilizing, reusing and recycling materials, to contribute substantially to lower environmental burden while maintaining quality of care.

Förväntade effekter och resultat

The project is run by Dutch academic hospitals, as well as manufacturing and logistics companies (Evercare Medical Sweden, Heintel Gruppe Austria and CleanLease), and non-for profit organization MVO Nederland. ReUsable facilitates a mutually beneficial cooperation between the stakeholders that as of yet has proven to be hampered by existing barriers that complicate the transition to more sustainable healthcare systems.

Planerat upplägg och genomförande

ReUsable generates knowledge on sustainability and concomitant costs, and behaviors of professionals in the field that supports implementation of existing solutions i.e. reusable procedure trays on a large-scale, or in different contexts. ReUsable introduces an innovative methodology strategy that couples CO2 reduction and costs that can be employed Europe-wide. To show that short-term financial investment in our intervention will provide a substantial reduction of CO2- emissions and a concomitant reduction in costs in the long-term.
