Viktiga resultat som projektet gav

The goal of this outline in the start report was very ambitious "The goal of the project is to realize wideband and high gain antenna module around 100 GHz range which will be fabricated by MEMS technology and will be used in back-hauling links". Within the project, we simulated and realized by polymer MEMS technology a proof of concept 140 Ghz antenna. The antenna realized showed lower gain than simulated due to identified parts in the fabrication process that needs to be improved. We believe that this will be possible and will apply for a larger project to attend to these.

Långsiktiga effekter som förväntas

The pre-study has provided answers to several specific scientific questions regarding the planar gap waveguide based slot array antenna design and low-cost MEMS fabrication aspects. Also, specific data about the optimal LOS MIMO array configuration for ultra-high speed backhauling links has been gathered.

Upplägg och genomförande

Within the pre-study project, we have investigated several antenna concepts. After analyzing the pros and cons of different antenna, we have done the complete electromagnetic design of a planar slot array antenna based on gap waveguide technology. The antenna is relatively wideband (135-150GHz operating bandwidth) and high gain (32dBi). The design was completed as part of Task-1 of the pre-study. The initial design of the planar antenna looks promising.
