Viktiga resultat som projektet gav

The projekt suceeded in making three types of insulating material more thermally conductive with boron nitride and grafene and then substituting a portion of this with biobased micro-crystalline cellulose that made the overall material lighter and more circular. This was done for the application of gap fillers in Scania´s batteries, with Xylems motor insulating resin, and with slot liner material of polyamide. These materials were not only processed, but also characterized for thermal adn electrical properties.

Långsiktiga effekter som förväntas

Results of this project included network formation of those interested in this topic. Further, it was found that cellulose could be incorporated into the materials in a homogeneous way. This project acted as a catalyst for all partners to investigate the questions around what makes a suitable gap filler and insulating material in battery and electric motor applications and how they can be made more circular.

Upplägg och genomförande

This project was successful in pinpointing which applications would be of most interest in an electric motor and in a battery system where this kind of material could be of most interest. After this identification, Umeå University made slot liner materials and RISE made composites of rubber and insulating resin. These materials were then tested for thermal and electrical properties. One of the most beneficial things was the visits to the partners facilities, networking, and formulation of related continuation projects.
