How can we accelerate deeptech in Sweden?

On 21 February 2024, Vinnova, the Norwegian Agency for Economic Development (TVV) and the Patent and Registration Agency (PRV) invited to a policy seminar with subsequent dialogue at Vinnova on the topic How can we accelerate deeptech in Sweden?

At the seminar, the report "Accelerating European deep tech — new pathways from ideas to impact" was presented. Download the report here.

In the report, which has been produced jointly by Vinnova and PRV, a number of proposals for measures to strengthen the conditions in the research and innovation system for deeptech companies have been compiled. The open part of the seminar ended with round table discussions where invited participants worked on the following themes:

• How can we create better conditions for the commercialization of research and the formation of deeptech companies? (Vinnova)
• How do we develop the ecosystem so that deeptech companies can scale with Sweden as a base? (Vinnova)
• How can we create value from and protect national assets? (PRV)
• What is required for the Swedish capital market to develop to cope with the scaling and industrialization of capital-intensive deeptech companies? (TVV)

The goal was to, through increased knowledge from the policy seminar and an in-depth discussion at round tables, contribute to a mobilization of actors to improve the conditions for Swedish deeptech companies to grow and thrive with Sweden as a base, as well as to identify solutions to challenges for Swedish deeptech companies and in the ecosystem.

In this publication, Vinnova, TVV and PRV have collected the main insights from the seminar and from the round table discussions.

We have identified and summarized the insights: Anna Bergstrand, Anne Lidgard, Josefin van der Meer, Kjell-Håkan Närfelt and Ylva Strander (Vinnova), Charlott Galant and Martin Lidén (PRV), Corinne Uppman Helminen and Henrik Storm Dyrssen (TVV).
