Important results from the project

The aim of the project was, through digitalisation of the production and process data of the sawmill, to increase the process efficiency by 15% increase the product value by 10% and reduce energy consumption by 10%. Some of the sub-goals have been achieved with the potential to achieve the entire goal when necessary rebuilding, installation or software update has been made. Due to events outside the project and late installation of some sensors, some of the goals have not been confirmed. However, the project group is convinced that the goals set are possible to achieve.

Expected long term effects

The project has reached a number of sub-goals. Some of them are confirmed in the project while others have been calculated. The reason why a number needed to be calculated is that, in order to be confirmed, they also require some rebuilding, which was not possible during this limited project time. Since the remaining sensors have been installed and the subsequent analyzes have been carried out and deficiencies have been rectified, the expected effects are an improved process with a higher value yield and lower energy consumption.

Approach and implementation

The project has been led by a steering group consisting of people from all project partners, with project management from RISE. The decisions have been taken, with efficiency from decision to action, with the goals in focus. Formal meetings have been held at about one month´s intervals, either via telephone or physical meetings, usually at the sawmill. In order to achieve an efficient project group, it is important that all parties are aware of their obligations and that the expectations for efforts, work and outcomes are at the correct level and rooted in the organization.
