Purpose and goal
The WinSpace project aims to design, manufacture, and test a composite tank for storing cryogenic liquid hydrogen for aerospace applications. Hydrogen is a particularly attractive fuel for aviation as it provides about three times more energy per kg than jet fuel and other conventional fossil fuels.
Expected effects and result
The WinSpace project is expected to meet the standard protocols and regulations in design, production, life in service, and end-of-life management of the product manufactured. WinSpace will also advance manufacturing processes, enhancing cost-effectiveness and stability. By addressing commercial aviation and establishing a robust value chain, WinSpace is aligned with the mission of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the EU Green Deal, and Horizon Europe.
Planned approach and implementation
WinSpace will officially start on 2024-11-01 and last 24 months, closing on 2026-10-31. The project has seven work packages (WP), each with Tasks (T), Deliverables (D) and Milestones (M). SSAC is the Project Coordinator/Project Leader. The respective partners will implement the actual research work and complementary training for development and implementation.
