Important results from the project
This study investigated several circuit approaches in terms of their feasibility to replace the bulky, expensive LNA solution used in today’s systems. The ultimate goal for these approaches was to enable an ultra-compact LNA with significantly reduced harmonic distortion compared to the state of the art. Multiple different circuit approaches were investigated as planned in the initial proposal, and extra approaches identified. The technical findings are summarized in a detailed report, which will form the basis of future joint research activities of the project partners.
Expected long term effects
Seven different circuit approaches were investigated by means of literature studies and circuit simulations. Additionally, a potential path for digital interference reduction methods was sketched based on previous experience at Chalmers. The detailed report that resulted from this work lists the pros and cons of these approaches and will help Saab and Chalmers in future research endeavors in the area of wideband highly linear LNAs. The project thus meets the expected outcomes.
Approach and implementation
Initially, also a joint application to Vinnova’s “Smartare elektroniksystem” was anticipated. While the technical outcome of the project would absolutely support such an endeavor, the current situation in terms of available man-power at Saab did not allow for the in-kind contribution required to form the desired project volume being able to hire a Ph.D. student. Other funding opportunities for this project will be investigated.
