Important results from the project
Wet processing of Biocompo-sites for 3D shell applications.A wet process for the production of new cellulose reinforced biocomposite materials with improved dimensional and mechanical properties intended for the use in 3D applications such as shells or double curvature panels. Demonstrator A disposable machine part, a disc stack for separators, will be produced using the wet process to be developed within the project.
Expected long term effects
The development and promotion of the use of cellulose fibres from the forest industry in sustainable construction and design materials. The development of manmade 3-D cellulose fibre-based shell structures suitable for machine parts, interior panels, computer and household appliance housings and packaging. A widening of the application span of cellulose fibres and the achievement of fibre qualities with a higher added value. To promote further use and development of bio-fibre based composites
Approach and implementation
The new hygrodimensional fibre qualities will be developed at STFI based on the newly patented fibre wall loading process. Reagents and polymers will be developed at BASF while the materail development and testing will be performed at STFI based on the micromechanical tools developed at Luleå tekniska Universitet and KTH.
