Call Impact Innovation: System demonstrators for the sustainable manufacturing industries of the future - step 1

Purpose and goal

This project aims to support Swedish iron and steel foundries´ transition towards climate neutrality by 2040. The pre-study addresses knowledge gaps and challenges that hinder the transition to sustainable material flows and processes. The project evaluates current material and energy use, investigates sustainable alternatives and engages stakeholders to design a system demonstrator. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions, increase resource efficiency and promote circular principles in value chain.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to provide results that support a resilient and circular foundry value chain in Sweden. Through a feasibility study and system demonstrator, foundries can achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The demonstrator simulates climate footprints and tests alternative materials and energy sources, providing a platform to evaluate resilience and sustainability. These solutions can be spread throughout the value chain and create new standards that increase competitiveness.

Planned approach and implementation

An anchored plan is developed to develop and finance a system demonstrator in collaboration with a network of relevant actors. A strategic analysis is made, the potential of the system demonstrator is analyzed and evaluated, and the knowledge of a mission-oriented working method is deepened.
