Waste to value: Small-scale waste-to-energy plants

Reference number
Coordinator AGAINITY AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration January 2017 - June 2017
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project aimed to investigate possible barriers and possibilities for the implementation of small-scale waste-to-energy systems. This included identifying suitable markets, a more detailed construction layout, identifying technical demands within the company and to formulate a general project plan for a demonstration plant. Through carrying out a large number of different activities these goals can be considered fulfilled in a satisfying way.

Expected long term effects

The outcome of the project corresponds, to a very large extent, with the established goals. For example, the comprehensive work with technical, economical and legal aspects of the planned project has resulted in a feasibility study elucidating the challenges and opportunities of the project. This will be an important tool in the continued work with the demonstration plant. The project has also resulted in a general project plan for the continued work process. This is hoped to facilitate the construction of the demonstration plant, which is planned to be finalized in 2018-2019.

Approach and implementation

The project has been based on several activities of varying character. One important part has been to strengthen the knowledge within the company by creating better ties with various relevant partners. Another important part of the project has been to perform a theoretical analysis of, for example, energy content of waste and economic profitability. This combination of activities has enabled the project to get both depth and width, making a holistic view of problems and opportunities possible. This is regarded a key to the successful outcome of the project.
