Important results from the project

The project achieved its goals by developing a new digital AI/ML algorithm, WANDA, into a scalable solution that detects and corrects anomalies. The data WANDA is applied to can therefore be used to draw accurate conclusions for water and wastewater organizations’ environmental impact in different operational environments. Thanks to the design, measurement data from other sectors can benefit from the developed solutions and be implemented to fully utilize the project’s results.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to ensure that water sectors always work with quality-assured and reliable data. Accurate data is the foundation for making correct decisions to fully understand the environmental impact of water and wastewater organizations. This is important both in Sweden and abroad, and it also concerns other sectors working with the interpretation and understanding of measurement data. Outlook, the project group predicts WANDA as a natural part of daily work when analyzing data.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out in three phases and through collaboration in various constellations. First, a preliminary study was conducted, and an annotation tool was developed to collect real data with actual issues. Subsequently, models were selected and implemented, then tested in pilot tests where WANDA was integrated into the partners’ IT systems. Regular plenary and technical meetings were key success factors for coordination and knowledge sharing.
