Important results from the project

The innovation initiative Visual Sweden, with a focus on visualization and image analysis with Östergötland as a base, has during its first seven years of operation developed well, which was also confirmed by the second international evaluation in 2022. The number of regional stakeholders has increased significantly since the start and at the end of the second phase was 111 companies with own development capacity in the domain and more than 30 companies and government organizations with challenging needs. About 100 innovation and knowledge-building projects have been carried out.

Expected long term effects

The Visual Sweden brand was already well established in the region during phase 1. During phase 2, above all, the national visibility and presence has increased, among other things through several collaborations and a first node outside the region. It is indisputable that Östergötland constitutes Sweden´s - if not Europe´s - center for visualization and image analysis. Since the start, approx. 100 innovation and knowledge-building projects have been carried out. More than 30 new products, services and processes have been put to use.

Approach and implementation

The initial mobilization phase was carried out with limited resources for process management in favor of concrete innovation activities. A strengthening of the process management resources has taken place during phase 2, for long-term sustainability and to create a resource space for the recruitment of increased financing and intensified efforts for internationalization. During the latter part of the phase, great emphasis was placed on strategy work for the initiative´s operations after the end of the Vinnväxt period in 2025, under the working name "Visual Sweden 2.0".
