Important results from the project

Visual Sweden has exceeded the objective set in 2016. VS has become one of Europe´s strongest innovation environments in visual technologies. Over 150 projects have been implemented, more than 30 new products, services and processes have been created, and 15 new companies. The direct Vinnova funding has mobilized approximately SEK 157 million. Other important results are the establishment of InfraVis (2022) and Immersive Sweden (2025), as well as a stable structure for the future Visual Sweden.

Expected long term effects

Visual Sweden is expected to create lasting impacts through a strong, self-sustaining innovation cluster in visual technologies and XR. Through VS and Immersive Sweden, Sweden´s international competitiveness, talent attraction and turning research into new innovations are strengthened. The project lays a solid foundation for continued growth, new companies, jobs and societal benefits in medicine, industry, forestry and sustainable urban development long after the end of the Vinnväxt period.

Approach and implementation

Visual Sweden was implemented in three phases from 2016 to 2025. Phase I (establishment), Phase II (acceleration) and Phase III (scaling). The strategy was to be a neutral innovation platform that supported the strong research base, industry competitiveness, public sector needs and facilitated triple helix innovation processes. The collaboration worked well and became stronger over time. Unexpected positive effects included the national projects InfraVis and Immersive Sweden.
