Purpose and goal

Visions in the North, step 2, is part of The Council for Sustainable Cities´ mission to support municipalities in the north of Sweden and to strengthen the adaptation in matters of long-term sustainable living environments. The project´s aim is to create new methods and ways of thinking about the processes surounding urban and rural planning with the help of interdisciplinary teams while developing long-term development- and management strategies. The goal is to identify important keys and time depths to speed up a sustainable transition.

Expected effects and result

The project aims to respond to needs from the participating municipalities to get closer to implementation, to get support in parallel processes and to test challenges in physical prototypes to create long-term sustainable living environments. The results of the projects should aim to create a base of alternative implementation strategies that include communicating with those affected by the transformation, those who plan for it and those who decide on it.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consists of two phases. Phase one consists of cross-disciplinary inventory and analysis of site-specific challenges. It includes developing a proposal for a new solution, for example a proposed change to the physical environment or a new way of working that can be tested through a prototype. Phase one also includes a development and management plan for the solution. In phase two a selection of the teams continues the work and test the proposals by developing a prototype. Based on results of the tests, long-term development and management strategies are drawn up.
