Purpose and goal

Visions in North step 2 aims to create new and complementary approaches, methods, and ways of thinking about public participation, while long-term development and management strategies are developed. In short, the goal is to improve the public space, inspire and contribute with meaningful experiences, create a sense of belonging and empowerment and increased involvement in Gällivare. Experimental and exploratory approach to climate adaptation and site development in Gällivare is an important experience for future projects throughout northern Scandinavia.

Expected effects and result

The project proposes a strategy for place-building with the public by the Vassaraälven in Gällivare. The project will inspire and contribute with meaningful experiences, knowledge and experiences; provide the opportunity to discover and explore as well as contribute with innovation and increased commitment. The proposal is anchored to the place and the community, and should possibly also lead to physical activation of a place by the river.

Planned approach and implementation

We begin the work with the analysis of existing available data and documentation. We carry out several site visits. Meanwhile, the inventory of the habitat and the built environment is carried out. Local actors are interviewed. Preparation of a proposal based on work from the initial stage begins in September. Cross-disciplinary forms of presentation are examined. Continued interviews with local actors are carried out during site visits in Gällivare. Internal workshops take place continuously throughout the period. We document the entire process in a sketchbook.
