Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to verify whether hardware based protocol for cache coherence in multicore processors was technologically and commercially viable in the relevant markets. The goal was to define a value proposition to one or more market segments. The objective i considered reached where the initial hypothesis has been rejected, and adoption has been reassessed.
Expected long term effects
VIPS technology has now been implemented in software. Through dialogue with industry stakeholders and investors, we received feedback that a software version of VIPS would be possible to validate by the commercial users. Expected effects are now to spread the technology becomes easier taking us closer product market fit, and the company Eta Scale will be the commercial operator for this.
Approach and implementation
The project was mainly driven by the inventors of the technology in collaboration with UU Projekt AB. When necessary, the project hired consultants and engineers. The market verification was based mainly on meetings with prospective users of the technology. It would have been optimal to have a commercially experienced project manager focusing specifically in the project, but it was not economically feasible. Several agreements have been signed with European partners, as well as with potential customers to in order to validate the technology.
