Purpose and goal

The project will do a preliminary quantification on how much changes on an underground mine ventilation system that can be changed when BEVs are the main production machines instead of diesel machines. Key challenges in the implementation of BEVs in relation to future ventilation needs and its design will be identified. The results from the project will assist the implementation of BEVs in relation to future ventilation needs and its design.

Expected effects and result

A report that contains a preliminary guideline to design an underground mine ventilation system when BEVs are used as the main production equipment, will be created. This preliminary guideline will include key challenges in the implementation of BEVs in relation to future ventilation needs and design of the ventilation system. This report will become a main guideline to design future underground mines that have BEVs as their main production equipment.

Planned approach and implementation

This project consists of four work packages (WPs) as follows: WP 1 - Literature review and field testing preparation (November - December 2024) WP 2 – Field testing of reducing airflow in the BEV trial areas (December 2024 - April 2025) This will be done within two production areas within Malmberget mine WP 3 - Simulating ventilation of the BEV trial areas (March - May 2025) WP 4 – Identifying key challenges and writing project report (May - June 2025)
