Important results from the project

The aims and objectives of the Urethral tissue engineering project is to both give me as a project leader training within different fields of regenerative medicine as well as to give me possibility to create a scaffold with optimized porosity and surface modification for regeneration of urethral tissue.

Expected long term effects

*My qualification within regenerative medicine will enable me to work in a broader span of tissue engineering. Furthermore will the gained knowledge and international qualifications be of great importance for my further career in the field of regenerative medicine. *A successful regeneration of urethral tissue enable treatment of urethral restriction and other urethral problems *A long term collaboration between BBV and WFIRM will be fruitful for the region of Gothenburg in the long run and Chalmers and other projects in the short run

Approach and implementation

*Cell training course will be conducted at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) *Courses in different molecular techniques will be taken at WFIRM *Scaffolds with different porosity will be manufactured *Different surface modifications will be evaluated for improvement of cell infiltration and proliferation *Animal trials of cell infiltrated scaffolds will be conducted in nude mice and later in larger animal models
