Important results from the project
In the UrbanKoll project, Jernkontoret´s concept Järnkoll has been further developed, formalized and broadened. Within the Järnkoll concept, activities aimed at upper secondary school students are carried out in order to increase their understanding and create a long-term interest in the Swedish steel industry. With the overall goal of contributing positively to companies´ skills supply and inspiring higher studies. In the project, eight completely new partner schools in the Stockholm area have joined and activities have been carried out in collaboration with these schools.
Expected long term effects
During the project, eight new partner schools in the Stockholm area were connected to Järnkoll. It can be stated that the teachers at the participating schools are positive about the funding that Järnkoll provides for teaching and the activities will continue in all schools even after the project has ended. In the spring of 2021, a survey was conducted among students in the UrbanKoll schools. The survey shows, among other things, students from the schools that were part of the project UrbanKoll has a much greater knowledge of the steel industry compared with students in the control group.
Approach and implementation
Skills supply is one of the most important issues for the steel industry and the Swedish business community in general. Through the UrbanKoll project, Järnkoll, Jernkontoret´s concept for high school students, has been formalized, developed further and broaden with high schools in the Stockholm area. Through the regular classroom activities, conditions are created for students, as well as teachers, to get a closer connection to steel industry and working life. In addition, contacts are offered with companies in the steel industry via study visits and visits from young engineers.
