Important results from the project
Urban Magma aims to become an international leading place for the development of knowledge, products, services and systems for the technical supply systems in our cities; energy, water and waste. Urban Magma´s strategy has been to establish effective focusgroups and testbeds that promote concrete innovation. Five successful focusgroups and two testbeds have been established, where the Vera Park Circularity testbed has achieved great national and international reputation. From 2020, Urban Magma´s layout will be changed to run the business in a more efficient regional context.
Expected long term effects
Since its start in 2016, Urban Magma has focused on developing focusgroups, starting concrete R&D projects and developing testbeds. The strongest results and largest effects have been achieved in five focusgroups and two testbeds. For example, the focusgroup “Smart thermal grids” has developed a collaboration platform for district heating and district cooling. Two testbeds are being developed, at the NSR in Helsingborg, “Vera Park” a testbed in circular economy, and in Malmö, “Blue green City Lab”, a testbed for stormwater solutions in an urban environment.
Approach and implementation
Urban Magma was led by a board of directors and with a process management where all partners were represented. The operational work has largely been done by developing focusgroups, developing testbeds, and starting concrete R&D projects. Several of the Urban Magma activities have worked very well and led to great success. Certain parts of the collaboration process need to be developed and understanding of our triple helix model needs to be developed. In the next development phase of the innovation cooperation in the region, experiences from Urban Magma will contribute significantly.
