Important results from the project
The project started in 2007 when a number of participants met and agreed on a strategy to decrease emissions of greenhouse gases from road transports. The three first vehicle combinations were up and running already in 2009. The hypothesis to decrease the fuel consumption and emission of the predominant greenhouse gas CO2 is to increase the load on each vehicle combination. How this is achieved is dependent on the type of load. In this project we have timber which is predominantly weight restricted goods. The number of axels is increased in order to restrict the axle load.
Expected long term effects
Our goal is to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road transport. The target value for the 90-ton combination is 25%. The target for the 74-tonne combinations are 12 to 17%, depending on driving conditions, terrain and configuration. Previous projects have been 22% for the 90-ton combination, and 8-15% for 74-ton trucks. We have made a number of technical improvements in this project in order to have additionally reduced fuel consumption and get further reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Approach and implementation
The method to establish the fuel savings, CO2 reduction and fulfillment of the boundary conditions is done by running field test under real circumstances.
