Important results from the project
The purposes of the innovation and collaboration project were to: 1. Perform an inventory of the innovation system and possibly implement changes. 2. Increase incentives for interaction and utilization according to KI Strategy 2018. 3. Propose a number of transparent and easily measurable indicators to be used in research resource allocation system. 4. Develop guidelines for IP. The purpose of VFT1 project is to verify the research-based business concepts and determine the most appropriate strategy for continued commercialization.
Expected long term effects
A KI strategic innovation agenda has been developed and extensive structural and organizational changes have been implemented. 2. A proposed model for the resource allocation system based on innovation and cooperation have been developed. 3. A number of indicators including an impact part have been developed. 4. A proposal for guidelines for IP KI has been developed. More than half of current VFT1 projects have been exposed to external parties. The level of external funding has increased significantly over the years 2012-2016. Some projects have also formed companies during the year.
Approach and implementation
With support from the project and an innovation board, a strategy has been implemented by the deputy vice chancellor at KI. An interview process with senior researchers at KI and benchmarking against many universities in and outside Sweden have been performed. Based on this, a concrete proposal on a resource allocation model for research incl. indicators of innovation and collaboration was developed. The VFT-1 project has developed internal processes and expanded its network of external experts. During the year a total of 46 projects were handled and 99 consultancy studies awarded.
