Project duration December 2018 - July 2019
Status Completed

Important results from the project

Within stage 1, frameworks and starting points have been created for how vertical extensions becomes flexible, bio-based and circular. A survey has been made of opportunities and obstacles for these projects. The areas of development of great importance for the continued growth of the area are methods for citizen dialogue, architecture and technology, primarily linked to the interconnection layer between the existing and the new building, calculation models incl. risk sharing and circularity and development of methods for BIM design, which includes data for the existing building.

Expected long term effects

The entire Timber on Top project is expected to lead to increased collaboration and new solutions (technology and economic) regarding extension projects. Within stage 1, networks have been created between participating actors from different parts of the value chain (municipalities, property owners, architects, designers, contractors and construction system suppliers) which is a prerequisite for successful extension projects. Stage 1 has also provided a mapping of defined opportunities and obstacles to technical aspects that will be a large part of stage 2 of the project.

Approach and implementation

In stage 1, two workshops with presentations and study visits of completed extension projects have been carried out, as well as workshops on the obstacles and opportunities that the participating parties see around extensions. Interview studies have also been conducted with all partners, about opportunities and obstacles they see in their part of the value chain for an extension project. The documentation that emerged from workshops and interviews has been combined with literature and technology studies to produce state-ot-the-art in important areas.
