Important results from the project
The project has achieved its purpose. For Minesto AB:s part, the project has delivered investigations of manufacturing materials, manufacturing methods and of different designs. A certification body assessment of the first commercial-scale wing is ongoing. The first commercial-scale wing is being manufactured and is fully financed. As for the project goals time, cost and content the project has nearly met the revised time schedule, costs are in parity with budget, and the content has been delivered almost fully in accordance with Vinnova’s decision.
Expected long term effects
The project has delivered more results than planned. Effect goals: * Expected increase in number of employees: 15% Outcome: The number of employees at Minesto has about doubled, from 24 to 50 persons. The increase became about 100%. * Expected effect on annual turnover: 25% Outcome: Annual sales remain low. However Minesto was in in 2015 granted an investment of 13 million Euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) and an investment of 4.5 million Euros from KIC InnoEnergy, for the commercialization of Deep Green.
Approach and implementation
The project was extended twice. First by Atlantis, to manage a delay regarding sea bed infrastructure in MeyGen project. Secondly by Minesto, to handle a lack of availability of resources among composite manufacturers. The project’s content was adapted twice on Minesto’s request. First, from a full-scale wing to a ¼-scale wing. Then a second wing in ¼-scale was added. As consequences of that the project was given opportunities to be extended and adapted it created relevant knowledge and added value for both Atlantis and Minesto.
