Important results from the project

That the mining industry becomes more equal and inclusive is important for the future power of innovation and the ability to attract the best competence. The purpose of the project was to carry out an event with a relevant theme that can appeal to new target groups; an alternative to SMI´s annual innovation competition, which has so far attracted a very narrow group. Instead, SMI would offer a new type of experience that could arouse curiosity and interest. A design sprint was deemed suitable for this. It was a one-off event that could act as a pilot for a recurring annual event.

Expected long term effects

RISE concretized and managed the event and SMI acted as a sounding board and to provide direction and contacts. Through the event, valuable knowledge was created about how to reach more new target groups and have ready working methods and materials to work with them. The external participants provided detailed feedback on their views on switching careers to the mining industry, the role such an event could play, and how it could be implemented practically to be feasible for professionals.

Approach and implementation

The process included target group identification and their needs, development of sprint concepts, concepts for communication, implementation of the event and development of methodological materials for future use. This was done through a co-creative design process where SMI and RISE jointly worked mainly on the early parts during a number of workshops with both actors. RISE then worked to concretize and process manage the event and SMI acted as a sounding board and to provide direction and contacts
