Important results from the project
The project aims to inspire firms to implement IoT into their businesses. The project´s goal is to create knowledge about the business aspects of IoT and through case studies build a solid foundation on which we´ve created a framework and a guide for companies facing an IoT investment. The project has delivered IoTguiden, a publication that provides clear advice and examples of companies working with IoT-based solutions. Based on the specific cases in various industries, the project can present generalizations regarding the transition from products to services with the IoT.
Expected long term effects
The project´s great potential lies in the creation of a comprehensive understanding of the business aspects of IoT, founded in the systematic review of ongoing IoT-projects, which is of interest to practitioners and embodied in IoTguiden, which provides clear advice and examples of companies facing an investment in IoT-solutions. Based on specific cases in various industries, the project introduces cross-industry generalizations regarding IoT, as well as serve as a source of knowledge and inspiration regarding the business aspects of IoT.
Approach and implementation
The project´s approach is based on case studies and an benchmark study focusing on business aspects of the IoT. We have identified success factors and risks associated with the IoT investment for businesses. Case firms have been selected to represent the different types of technical IoT solutions and various industries. About twenty Swedish companies have been studied through interview studies. The interviews along with the material from the literature study constitute the foundation of IoTguiden, a publication with a specific focus on the business aspects of IoT.
