Important results from the project

The goal of the project was to develop an instrument for treatment of bladder cancer with 4 integrated functions aimed at improving patient care and streamlining the healthcare process. All project objectives have been met, with an ongoing clinical study where all patient treatments have been successful.

Expected long term effects

We have developed an instrument for treatment of bladder cancer with 4 integrated functions that provide improved patient care and a more efficient healthcare process. The treatment can be performed at the same time as the diagnosis is made. General anesthesia is not needed as the procedure can be carried out with local anesthesia. Previous bleeding problems during surgery are reduced and we expect a reduction in cancer recurrence as the tumor biopsies are enclosed within the instrument and automatically transported out.

Approach and implementation

Preclinical trials on pigs have been conducted to evaluate the function and safety of the instrument. These trials have also contributed to optimizing the instrument´s design. All safety tests, such as biocompatibility and sterilization, have been performed to compile the regulatory documentation. We have received approval to conduct a clinical study, which has begun with good results for all included patients.
