The effect of Digitalization for future automated and sustainable shipping

Important results from the project

The project has mapped out and found the need for a collaboration platform to drive innovation and development in shipping. From the collaboration platform, technologies such as Navigation Support, Autonomous Security, Remote/Autonomous Measurement Vehicles, and higher degree of automation and digitization could help to relieve the road network in a smart multimodal way. Digitalization will also make shipping more socio-technically equal. To promote all this, the identified collaboration platform is needed as a catalyst for innovation and a cluster of actors has been created.

Expected long term effects

We have held a number of work shops and meetings and there by reached and involved several actors. The project has created rings on the water and the result of this is quite late in the project started to produce very good results and today the consortium has actors from yards and shipping to manufacturing, public functions and academies. From small and medium-sized companies to large groups. The consortium now has the competence to proceed to Stage 2 application to create a unique open framework and collaboration platform ranging from simulators, prototypes to full-scale shipboard tests.

Approach and implementation

The consortium has grown during the project and the expertise is now interdisciplinary, and still open to new . The consortium is open to more players and collaborations. The project has inventoried / conducted a situation analysis and have found similar open initiatives. We believe that the open model is a national strength, promoting innovation and is competitive advantage internationally. Open also means socio-technical progressive. Ahead of a Step 2 application, we will work to find more players, to enhance collaboration and innovation.
