Important results from the project

Treesearch will establish an open national collaboration platform for research and innovation on materials from the forest, where academia, industry, research institutes, private foundations and the state together create the basis for future innovations to make Sweden a leading bioeconomy. Stage 3 has established and further developed processes and activities within the platform. The stage has been affected by the effects of covid-19 restrictions, which has meant that some activities have had to be cancelled while other digitally adapted activities have been added.

Expected long term effects

The project has strengthened the industrial relevance and knowledge transfer between academia and industry. During the project, industries and universities have joined, as well as almost 450 individual researchers. Through the research infrastructure activities (125 applications during Stage 3), the efficiency of the research has increased. Research initiatives have strengthened the link between basic research and more industrial research. Finally, Treesearch has contributed to strengthening the forest industry´s attractiveness through increased visibility.

Approach and implementation

Stage 3 has as the two preceding stages of the Collaboration Project (which is operated as a consortium) been led by a board consisting of both academic and industrial parties. This has generated great commitment and broad support for development of activities and processes. The four areas of activity within Treeserarch have all working groups where the industry is represented, which has contributed to a large industrial commitment to implementation and participation.
