Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to investigate the possibility to reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions from construction projects on soft, high water content, soils, through the use of freeze/thaw consolidation. In the project work a number of key issues were identified as a starting point for further development. The method was considered to have potential from an energy perspective and for certain stakeholders with special questions regarding foundation techniques.
Expected long term effects
Representatives from the district heating sector, the construction sector and the heat pump sector were contacted and took part in the project to varying degrees. These representatives took part in the assessment of the method and expressed interest in future development projects, with the opportunity of making an in-depth technical analysis as a basis for business development.
Approach and implementation
The sector representatives were invited to a workshop in which the method freeze/thaw consolidation was introduced and explained and then discussed by the workshop participants. This approach was well aimed for the project, being in this early stage of development. The different backgrounds of the participants helped highlight key issues that could then be discussed from different perspectives.
