Venture Test beds for society´s challenges

Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project aim to help companies develop ideas for new circular products and innovations with plastic from the sea as a raw material, by establishing a test bed. The project has built up a physical part and an innovation environment. Sotenäs municipality has developed a test bed based on demand, while companies, academia and public activities have gained new insights and increased knowledge about sea plastic as a raw material. The project has built up a unique knowledge base for marine plastic recycling.

Expected long term effects

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project has reached the goals and companies have joined the project during the project. Demand for recycled plastic has increased, which means that the value of the raw material increases, and thus incentives for a plastic-free sea. The work with a test bed and MÅVC has created interest internationally, e.g. through participation in the World Exhibition and there are also initiatives underway to set up similar activities in Portugal. By spreading the working method, the greatest positive effects are achieved for the oceans.

Approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project was structured so that testers eventually joined and took over parts of the municipality´s co-financing part. An arrangement where Sotenäs municipality faced some risk if the project did not succeed in attracting companies to join. But it turned out to be successful as the project needed to be responsive to the market and address the needs of the testers. The partnership would not have been as strong if it had been defined from the beginning and the result would probably not have been as good for the project as a whole.
