Important results from the project
The project has successfully built a unique test bed for automated measurement and feedback of the personal climate footprint from consumption of energy, travel, food, housing and other private shopping. The climate footprint is visualized through a newly developed mobile app that have been evaluated during a 6-month pilot project in Uppsala. The testbed has been marketed via various communication activities and project partners have analyzed the possibilities for further development and scaling of project results.
Expected long term effects
The project has shown that feedback on the personal carbon footprint combined with information about climate-smart alternatives resulted in a reduction of the carbon footprint. This without the participants experienced any sacrifice or additional cost, while all consumption was on commercial terms. The project has attracted a great deal of attention and all the project goals are met. All project partners have been willing to scale the results and the project is expected to contribute to increased awareness and a lower personal climate footprint among Swedish consumers.
Approach and implementation
Evaluation and analysis of the test bed has been made in the context of a pilot project in Uppsala involving approximately 30 particpants and by a quantitative analysis of data from the CO2 tracker supplemented with user data from the mobile app and two different questionnaires. Quantitative data were also supplemented by interviews by a selection of the most active participants in the pilot project. The analysis has also included interviews with all participating commercial partners
