Important results from the project
The purpose is to support and facilitate testing and qualification, regarding technical performance and sustainability aspects, before full-scale industrial implementation of new process fluids can take place. The goal is to enable a sustainable use, both in terms of health and the environment. This has worked well for the pilot cases that have been executed. After the project, the test bed will be marketed via the RISE website. Two official seminars were arranged.
Expected long term effects
The end users have been given access to surveys and data that support their continued process in order to replace a process fluid. Two of the companies have started to introduce the new process fluids. The suppliers have participated actively in the work both with products and with analyses. It has worked well, also in the case where several suppliers were involved. From the test bed, the necessary studies are analysed, presented and assessed to the customer. The final choice of process fluid and supplier is made by the end user. New research projects have been identified and applied.
Approach and implementation
Four pilot cases have been carried out where the test bed´s offer and function have been used and evaluated to support the change of product; cutting fluids and polymer quenchants, respectively. The technical function of the fluids has been evaluated and sustainability aspects have been assessed. In two cases, master degree projects have been completed. The layout has worked well. Equipment and competence of both R&D providers, suppliers and end-users have been used. The significance of the network and it´s cooperation have been highlighted for the continued function of the test bed.
