Important results from the project
The packaging market is the largest consumer of fossil-based plastics (36% of total global use of 448 Mt / year (2015). Through internal and external meetings, we have determined the purpose for future testing environments. The public becomes more environmentally conscious, but political decisions also speak for fossil-free packaging solutions/laminates. The purpose of the planning and the forthcoming application is to establish a unique testing environment for SMEs and other actors for the commercialization of innovative packaging laminates based on fossil-free materials.
Expected long term effects
The result of planning phase has been that we expanded the number of participants and plan to submit an application for design and realization support. Expected effects in the coming test bed are to create a new test environment that is world leader in "functional laminate". It is important to ensure competence in the test bed´s work area and to develop contacts with the test bed´s potential users in the value chain. Planning support has enabled us to identify which adjustments in existing environments need to be done.
Approach and implementation
All project participants in the planning phase have helped to work with the different work packages. Together, we have planned scope to deliver a good result that will be the basis for future application. We in the project team have conducted a physical meeting per month in addition to mail and telephone meetings. We have received the answers we want for the 8 things that we need to answer in the planning phase. The 11 visits we made to identify future needs in the area gave us very good guidance for future testing environments. Budget and ambition level have been right.
