Important results from the project
This feasibility study has created the foundation for future R & D projects regarding 3D cameras utilized for fall detection. A feasible image processing algorithm has been found and a product concept design has been developed. The commercial potential has been determined through discussion with market participants and is considered very good.
Expected long term effects
The project has strengthen the competitiveness of Optronic within 3D sensor technology, while also giving a better understanding of the market and potential customers. We expect that Optronic, based on these results, will be able to sell several development projects, which in turn will lead to products both in healthcare and in other application areas.
Approach and implementation
During the project Optronic has worked with development of new 3D camera technology, sensor fusion, and evaluation of different image processing algorithms. The strategy has been to develop new sensor technology in parallel with the development of a proof of concept-demonstrator, using an existing industrial 3D camera from Fotonic. Movies created using the demonstrator were used in our contacts with potential customers and partners. Input from the market was then used in the development of a first design concept.
