Important results from the project
The project has included co-creation of a mission and formulation of a future strategic innovation program for which an application has been submitted. The purpose of SustainGov is to create the best possible conditions for the public sector to become a powerful enabler of health and well-being as well as of society´s sustainability transition. This includes equipping the public sector at all levels, with new tools, methods, competences, models and working methods in order to tackle complex societal challenges from a systems perspective jointly with the rest of society.
Expected long term effects
The project´s objective was to mobilize partners and actors to formulate a mission, design a program office and an implementation plan for a future strategic innovation program. This has been fulfilled given that the SustainGov consortium submitted an application in response to the Impact Innovation call for proposals, which closed on October 19, 2023. All partners have signed a "Letter of Commitment" in which they undertake to work and contribute to the fulfillment of the program´s mission and to the creation of a program office with Mid Sweden University as overall coordinator.
Approach and implementation
The project has used mission-oriented and co-creative working methods, including digital and physical workshops and meetings, in order to mobilize actors and stakeholders in the formulation of a joint mission. The work has, if anything, shown the need for a proactive, reformed public sector in order to succeed in enabling society´s social, economic and environmental sustainability transition. This is also why key players in the public sector have taken both ownership and responsibility over the formulation of the mission and the future program.
