Purpose and goal
The textile and fashion industry causes environmental and health impacts across value chain. Upcoming laws require efforts. The aim is to investigate how technological innovation, business models, policy, behaviors and infrastructure need to be developed for the system change. The goal is increased lifelength, reduced resource use, establishing profitable and scalable circular business models. New business models, collection systems will be tested to streamline reuse and recycling. The entire value chain is included and multiple solutions integrate to achieve results.
Expected effects and result
Conducted demonstration of solutions in a reality where brands tested circular collections with extended life and increased traceability, through a sustainable textile system. The collections have been tested, evaluated and looped where success factors for profitability and reduced use of resources have been identified. Efficient, profitable collection and sorting processes have been evaluated where a national large-scale pre-sorting facility has been built and tested. Project results from parallel projects and new technology development have been evaluated.
Planned approach and implementation
The demonstrator consists of the eight concepts: COLLECT, PRESORT, SORT, CREATE & CREATIVE Intelligence, FIX, ALTER, TRACE and RECYCLE, together create a sustainable textile system. The process is based on current situation with existing technology and business models. New technology is identified, tested and introduced into the system. Collections, new products will be developed and generate new business models in a circular system. Tested through the demo and further developed as they go, which means that the system is tested in several loops with a continuous development.
