Important results from the project
The NFA wanted to let the public access the results from the annual pesticide monitoring. With our new API we believe our goals have been achieved.
Expected long term effects
As our PEST-API now is accessible, NFA expects that several third parties will be able to access our data and gain a deeper understanding of how monitoring is done and how results are used.
Approach and implementation
NFA determined in a quite early phase that we wanted to build an REST-API instead of just releasing a dataset. The basis for this decision was that an API would be a more suitable solution for the third party developers we were hoping to reach. The API was developed in two seperate parts. The first was the API only, which exposed an underlying database, and the second part a javascript based web app which used the API. By developing the solution this way the NFA continuously could assure that the API was suitable for third parties.
