Important results from the project

The aim is to stimulate, motivate and facilitate clinical pediatric diabetes trials. A pediatric diabetes trial network, called SWEDIABNET, is created and has already increased awareness of clinical trials, and arranged education in Good Glinical Practice (GCP) for pediatric diabetes teams. A homepage/website is ready to be opened, which will give information both to patients/parents/general population and to pediatric diabetes teams about clinical trials and how to participate, and for the teams what is needed with regard to competence and resources.

Expected long term effects

We cannot prove yet that SWEDIABNET already has lead to more pediatric diabetes clinical trials, but we have increased awareness, identified the problems the diabetes teams experience and facilitated for the diabetesteams by GCP-education . The new homepage/website will certainly improve information to both patients/parents/general population and be helpful for the pediatric diabetes teams. However, SWEDIABNET has to be a long-term project to fully reach the aims.

Approach and implementation

SWEDIABNET has a coordinator and a steering group, which meets and has regular telephone conferences. A questionnaire to all clinics identified their problems and then two national meetings have offered information about trials and education in Good Clinical Practice (GCP). A homepage/website will soon open. SWEDIABNET certainly will contribute to evidence based care, development and innovation and will strengthen clinical diabetes research in Sweden and improve international interest and involvement
