Important results from the project

This is an innovation agenda for pioneering innovations, applied research excellence and increased exports by focusing on space tourism. It shows how Sweden in a smart, efficient and innovative way can create long-term impact by taking advantage of 60 years as a leading European space nation, 100 years as an industrial pioneer, and its position as an environmental champion. Sweden has the potential to become a leader in space tourism with world unique experiences, related services, training, research and technology transfer that can accelerate industries and activities on Earth.

Expected long term effects

Participating stakeholders in the agenda advocates continued efforts and investment in the development of human spaceflight and space tourism with platforms for cooperation between the space-, aviation-, and tourism industry. Through public backing and above all a clear ownership by the Government, Sweden can realize the potential of a high-tech and innovative commercial industry and position itself on the world map as a leading space tourism nation that attracts the world´s leading aerospace operators, visitors, talent and investment to Sweden.

Approach and implementation

The work has been done in collaboration with partners in industry, government, and research and innovation practitioners; from the tourism industry, space industry and related industries. A working group has met regularly. Some 60 stakeholders have participated in three workshops to explore the enviroment, vision and strategies. 30 interviews have been conducted and a platform for collaborative innovation has enbled wider participation. The potential analysis is based on secondary analysis of existing sources in combination with interviews and discussions in the groups.
