Important results from the project
SmoothIT had two main goals: Create awareness of energy use during preparation with the help of virtual models and be able to optimise energy for a production station both during development and operation. The project has developed models, methods, tools and algorithms to optimise the energy use of moving equipment and increase their service life. Several of the results have been evaluated in production with good results.
Expected long term effects
A result was evaluated in a real station, where the total energy consumption could be reduced by 12%, where one robot saved as much as 33%. A fleet of AGVs could also be optimized so that the total time for all tasks decreased by more than 30%, with a reduced energy consumption of 15%. If they did not have to perform the tasks faster than at present, energy use could be reduced by as much as 38% by running them more slowly.
Approach and implementation
The project was divided into three parts: 1. Energy-conscious virtual preparation and simulation, 2. Monitoring and maintenance, 3. Prediction and optimization of energy use. By identifying and analyzing a number of use cases in these three areas, with the industrial project partners, needs have been identified and possible solutions have been implemented and evaluated.
