Important results from the project

Raise awareness and reduce the environmental impact of interior design projects by developing a certification for interiors and a tool that supports the process.

Expected long term effects

Swedish furniture manufacturers have switched to circular business models. Sweden is an international example of innovative, sustainable interiors. Reduced waste and reduced carbon dioxide emissions from the furniture industry. Sustainable Interiors will reduce CO2 emissions and reduce waste by promoting recycling. Increased demand for reuse, creates new jobs in the renovation and upholstery industry as well as for the trade in used furnishings. The increased importance of the interior has resulted in the strengthening of interior architects in their professional role.

Approach and implementation

Sustainable Interior consists of two different parts; a certification and a tool that supports the process of certification. A tenant should be able to certify their premises and thereby obtain a measure of the overall environmental impact of an interior project. To work towards a certification where a certain level is to be maintained becomes an important part of Sustainable Interior to also develop a tool for those who work with the interior design proposal, that is, the interior architects.
