Call Transport and mobility services - FFI – autumn 2024

Purpose and goal

The goal is to analyze today´s flows and decision-making processes in forest transportation and for future electrification, investigate future needs and skills for drivers as well as their view of the profession and identify factors for sharing information between parties. Finally, further develop the driver support for electric timber trucks that was developed in the preliminary study as well as carry out extended user tests, create a roadmap and further recommendations for implementation.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of workflows and decision-making processes in the forest transport system, how collaboration and information exchange between actors is expected to improve efficiency and quality in transport work, and how drivers´ future needs can be met with help from a driver support. All from an electrification perspective.

Planned approach and implementation

Deepen the system analysis by more clearly examining the forest transport system. Investigate the future need for drivers for timber transport, what skills they will need and how existing and future drivers view the profession. Develop the driver support that was developed during the preliminary study so that it also contains functions needed for electrified vehicles. transportation. Identify willingness and effects of sharing data between actors in the forest transportation system.
