Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Important results from the project

The project has fulfilled its purpose of specifying a solution that enables the integration and implementation of sustainability in companies’ product innovation process, thereby contributing to the development of a more sustainable industry with sustainable production and consumption. A consortium with solution- and need owners, as well as users, has formed to jointly realize this solution. The project has also clarified how the results can be spread internationally through involvement in standardization work.

Expected long term effects

A digital solution that will support data management and include models for requirement- and portfolio management in relation to sustainability, methods for identifying, analyzing, and managing sustainability risks, as well as visualization models for products’ sustainability profile. Industry’s needs have been clarified and development opportunities identified. HIP is expected to increase the capabilities to apply a strategic sustainability and risk perspective, to measure the sustainability level, and to communicate this in relation to business- and customer value.

Approach and implementation

Multiple workshops were hosted at which 15 different companies were represented, to facilitate collaboration and exchange of experiences. The HIP solution was co-created with need owners, and a consortium for the next step started to form, including consultancies, industrial companies, and academia. There will be two types of participants in step 2: core partners, having a central role in the project, and reference partners, spending less time, while still being part of key activities. Thereby, many stakeholders can participate without losing the possibility to do focused work.
