Purpose and goal
The project´s aim is to test a new way of working based on foresight, dialogue and co-creation with key actors to create a method that in the long term can transform a centrally located industrial area into a mixed-use district. The goal is to create a resource-aware and co-creative community planning process that contributes to achieving sustainable urban development with attractive and accessible living environments in places with complex conditions regarding land and property ownership.
Expected effects and result
The project aims to develop an inclusive process where the municipality, property owners and other actors work together to meet complex challenges and promote sustainable urban development. The project is expected to contribute with inspiration to how Kalmar can work with a holistic view and cooperation in the future development of the old industrial area as well as other urban development projects. It will also result in a method that can be spread to other cities and municipalities.
Planned approach and implementation
The project uses the method of co-created speculative design, which assumes that actors who are active in a place are also those who can push through change in that place. Through a structured process, which engages multiple key actors, as well as active work with physical and virtual prototypes on site, the project aims to create a common vision of the future for the area and a clear idea for the individual the actors about how they can contribute to the realization of the vision of the future.
