Important results from the project

Digitalization and automation through AI has the potential to transfer some of the steel heat treatment physical processes to digital processes, to increase R&D-tempo. The project purpose as to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration within the domain of using AI for steel heat treatment simulation through the establishment of a Swedish-Canadian consortium. During the project, the Swedish-Canadian consortium has defined an AI solution design proposals and discuss a merger with another research consortium and to apply for a Horizon project together during 2024.

Expected long term effects

The project was a step towards steel development, manufacturing and implementation process automation. If being able to simulate the output steel properties as a function of a incoming steel composition and a processing scheme, process control systems could be integrated and automated to provide the requested properties without manual process configurations. The extension of the Ferritico software needed to support this digitalization task has been analyzed and designed during the project and the consortium has a plan for how the realize the plan during the next coming years

Approach and implementation

The project has been executed through continuous meeting with the project partners and the collaborators in Canada. It has also included meetings with separate research consortiums having common interests and targets within the steel heat treatment domain. Design proposals and research project proposals have been developed continuously and refined during these sessions and are now the foundations of the research project applications to be executed during 2024.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
