Important results from the project

Aim is to contribute to significantly faster development and introduction of flexible 4.0 solutions in production. The goal is to conduct a "State of the Art" study that shows the gap between opportunities and problems to use existing results (incompatibility). There is a need for a clearer focus on the fact that interoperability is a real and practical "showstopper" in the introduction of flexible automation. The work must result in a clear picture of future needs and potential benefits, as well as proposals for further work.

Expected long term effects

The results indicates the most important areas of development (1) Ontology and semantics Use and reuse of “all” data between all kind of systems - interoperability between systems and companies Cover from design to automated manufacturing (2) Solutions that address relevant industrial issues Able to use flexible and reconfigurable industrial solutions in a broader sense no tailor-made solutions to solve one aspect of a system Solutions that does not requires expert programming or tailor-made solutions- cost effective and possible to find competences

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in three phases: Theory: “State-of-the-Art” study of theory and available technology Overview of solutions developed in previous / ongoing research projects, relevant standards Industrial study Large types of survey of industry. Interviews for deeper information and data collection with a selection of companies. Synthesis and recommendations Draft concept and requirements specification for future solution Gap analysis based on needs, opportunities and potential benefits Development plan of recommendations
