Important results from the project
The overall aim was to analyze potential and the need for standardization in underwater technology, in order to improve the conditions for the development of new measurement methodology, systems and resource efficient private and public procurement of services in the underwater technology sector. By clarifying regulations and standards, the market can be opened to more stakeholders, while clearer product and service regulations facilitate the innovation process through a clearer picture of requirements.
Expected long term effects
Several areas have been identified as important to address from a standardization perspective. Among these, standardization of data formats for different types of sea metering, integration of environmental rules and policy documents into technical standards, and a standardized management of sea cable lay-out and associated environmental assessment have been seen to be of greatest importance for the actors operating in the underwater engineering industry. Since these are complex issues we will work to start technical committees within the framework of SIS to further these issues
Approach and implementation
The project went on from mid-December 2018 until November 2019. In addition to extensive literature search, an important element was the organization of two workshops (WS1 & WS2) to gather information from the industry. A third workshop for communicating conclusions and recommendations is planned for January 2020, with the intention of creating new technical committees in the identified areas.
